What kind of socks do you need to plant onions?
and the sculptural shapes of the growing plants create a work of art in the window, and when the sun hits them at mid day, it’s totally eye candy
I really love the shape of this onion, it looks like something you would find at MOMA
These little works of art aren’t only for show, they can be eaten. I have so many scallions growing that I don’t think I’ll ever need to buy them again.
The flavor is delicious even after 3 or more cuttings.
To grow, just use the onion, leek, or scallion as usual but save the part with the roots.
Use a toothpick or bamboo skewer
to support the roots so they can float above the water. Don’t worry about destroying the plant with the skewer or toothpick, it won’t harm the plants.
Place the roots in the water just to the top of the root line. It’s better to keep the roots in less water then more. Too deep will cause rot, we don’t want rot.
Once you have a nice root system you can plant them in dirt, or you can leave them in water. The most important part is to change the water when you see it’s becoming cloudy.
Allium has so many powerful and positive properties
. Eating it on a regular basis can help keep colds
& parasites away.
Beware that many animals
can not eat items from the Allium Family. Dogs, cats, rabbits, chinchillas, chickens, and many others must stay away from onions especially, it can kill some of them, so beware.
For humans, we have had a love affair with the Allium for many years. Modern day man uses Leeks, scallions, and onions in so many delicious recipes.
Try growing a mini window garden with some of your kitchen scraps. You have nothing to loose. If it doesn’t work try again, and maybe even again.
