Yes, you read it right, shower curtain rings and air plants. I had all these left over shower curtain rings from other houses, projects, and such. I didn’t want to get rid of them because I felt like “they could be something” so I kept them in a plastic bag for two years.
They waited patiently until I came up with this little diddy…
Air plants like…. air! The rings provide lots of air flow. Shower curtain rings can hang anywhere, are light, you can make them any length you like, and they have a cool shapes. They were the perfect size for Caput Medusae, which is the kind of air plant my friend gave me. She actually gave me 100 of them and then they grew into even more. Needless to say I’ll be making a few cool things with these guys.
I love watching them grow into massive clusters. They have the coolest lines, shapes, and fuzzy little hairs that catch their food which consists of dust and moister. If you keep them indoors water and light are the biggest things they need, although many places say they need to be fertilized I never have and never needed to. If you hang them outside just keep them out of the extreme cold and nature does the rest unless it’s really dry then give them a touch of water every week.
The neat thing about this project is that it is so fast to create and looks fantastic hanging as a mobile in your house or in a tree outside.
The tree outside is better for the plant, and less work for you. The plants will multiply quicker, but if you have it indoors you can still make it work with a little TLC.
